Today we're going to enable a custom Robots.Txt file in Blogger which can really help you to index your blog in Google faster and it will also make your blog more search engine friendly. Robots.Txt file is used in every website but in the past with old Blogger interface we're unable to add that file in our blogs but now in the new interface which is really amazing with a lot of great features we can enable that file in Blogger. Those who don't know about Robots.Txt file can read the below passage to understand that file.

What is Robots.Txt File ?

That is a simple text file in which the website owner use to write the commands for the search engine's crawler. It means that we can instruct the search engine's crawler with that file that we part of our site can be indexed or not. That commands are written in different coding which is only for search engine's crawler. You can see your robots.txt file just by following the below URL.
http://www.yourdomain.com/robots.txt

 What Areas You Should Disallow For Crawling In Your Blog?

So, This question maybe coming in your mind that which areas of your blog you should disallow for crawling. In fact, You can disallow any area of your blog but there are some important areas for disallowing. If you disallow those areas then you blog will be more search engine friendly and that areas are Search Result pages, Archive pages and labels pages. However, Below I'm giving you an search engine friendly robots.txt file which will help you a lot.

Enable Custom Robots.txt File In Blogger

So, This process is so easy just follow the simple steps below.
  • Go To Blogger >> Settings >> Search Preferences
  • Look For Custom Robots.Txt Section In The Bottom and Edit It.
  • Now a check box will appear tick mark "Yes" and a box will appear where you have to write the robots.txt file. So if you want to use our file then copy the code below and paste it in that box.

  • Note : The first line "User-agent: Mediapartners-Google" is for Google AdSense. So if you are using Google AdSense in your blog then remain it same otherwise remove it. 
  • Click "Save Changes".
After adding the file now you must be wanted to understand your file that what we have allowed and disallowed. So, I've listed every command with detail below.

Explanations

  • User-agent: Mediapartners-Google : So, This is a first command which is for those blogs which are using Google AdSense if you are not using Google AdSense then remove it. In this command, we're telling the AdSense's separate robot that crawl all pages which are having AdSense Ads.
  • User-agent: * : Here the User-agent is calling the robot and * is for all the search engine's robots like Google, Yahoo etc.
  • Disallow: /search?q=* : This line tells the search engine's crawler not to crawl the search pages.
  • Disallow: /*?updated-max=* : This one disallows the search engine's crawler to do not index or crawl label or navigation pages.
  • Allow: / : This one allows to index the homepage or your blog.
  • Sitemap : So this last command tells the search engine's crawler to index the every new or updated post.

How Can I Add a Command For Disallowing Any Page?

So if you are interested in adding your own command then you can also do it. Here is an example for disallowing the contact page Disallow: /p/contact-us.html . So, first you will need to replace /p/contact-us.html which is other part of the domain with another. It mean you just need to exclude the main domain and just type remain part of the page. In our previous posts we discussed about some things of search preferences which were meta description tags, robot.txt file and custom 404 error page but here we're going to discuss about custom robots header tags setting which is also a part of search preferences settings.

Basically, custom robots header tags setting is similar to robots.txt file because these both things are about to tell the search engine's crawler for which area they should index or not. But there is on difference. In robots.txt file we used to write the command and in custom robots header tags we'll need to tick mark some check box. If you tick mark correct fields then there is a chance of getting traffic even more from search engines. This will also help you to increase the visibility of your blog in search results. When Google completely indexes your sitemap and now when someone will search any keyword in Google after that if that keyword belongs to any post of you then your post may comes in search results. So, This tutorial contains two main and important steps. In the first step we'll verify our blog in Google webmaster tools so that your blog may easily index completely and quickly and in the second step we'll submit the sitemap. So let's begin with first step.

Verify Your Blog In Google Webmaster Tools

In order to verify your blog, Go To Google Webmaster Tools. Now there you will see your blog in the homepage and that is automatically added to webmaster tools because Blogger is owned by Google and it used to automatically add blog in webmaster tools for better service. If your blog is not added then you also add it manually. So now follow the simple steps below to verify your blog.
  • Go To Webmaster Tools Homepage  >> Look for your blog
  • Click "Manage Site" Button In The Right Side and Go To "Add or Remove Users"
  • Click "Manage Site Owners" and Go To Verify Using Different Method
  • Tick Mark "HTML TAG"
  • Now a meta tag code will appear, copy it and save it in notepad or any other text editor.
  • Now open a new tab in browser [ Note : Don't Close Webmaster Tools Tab ]
  • Go To Blogger >> Template >> Edit HTML
  • Search <head> and paste the meta tag below <head> which you've saved in notepad.
  • Click "Save Template"
  • Open the webmaster tools tab and click on "VERIFY" button in the bottom of the page.
  • After clicking verify button, You will see the congratulations message that you've successfully verified your blog in webmaster tools. Now it's time to submit the sitemap. Let's jump to next step.

Submitting Sitemap To Google

  • Go To Your Blog's Dashboard 
  • Click "Optimization" In The Left Side and Go To "Sitemaps"
  • Click On "Add/Test Sitemap"
  • Copy The Code Below and Paste It In The Text Box and Press "Submit Sitemap"

  • Note : The above code is for 1 to 500 posts and if you have more than 500 posts published on your blog then just copy the two lines below and paste it on that text box and add it twice.

  • CONGRATULATIONS ! You've have successfully submitted sitemap to Google. Now you have to wait about a week for completing the indexation.

Why You Should Submit Sitemap To Search Engines?

This is the most important thing for every blogger to get the success in blogging. We use to submit sitemap to search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo. After submitting sitemap these search engine's crawlers come to our site for indexing. After the sitemap is completely indexed then your site will also be visible in search results.   • So You Have To Wait About a Week To Get It Completely Indexed.

Adding search description or meta description in your posts can help you in getting higher ranks in search results. But your description must be properly written and have 150 characters because Google shows only 150 characters in search results otherwise it will look broken description. How To Get First Position In Google Search Results

If you're regular reader here then you probably know that few days ago, we discuss that how can we offer giveaways on blogs. And that was ranked on the second page of search results. Look at the below Image.
You can see in the above image that mine post is ranked on the second page and at the bottom. After seeing this result, I did little research about bringing it on first position and also did the experience about it. I got success in bringing it at the first place as you can see the below image.
So you can look in the above image that same post is on the first position. And Yeah! I'm going to share the tips which I've tried. Some people say that I'd logged in the Google account and your own post will appear first. Yes, I agree with them that when you're logged in the Google account then Google shows our posts first but here I'd logged out, cleared cookies and even I used Mozilla firefox browser to search because Google Chrome is my default browser.

So below I'm going to share these tips about bringing a blog post on the first position. Read them carefully and also try them. I'm sure you'll get benefit from it.

1. Create Unique, Lengthy and Loved Content

In the blogosphere world, content matters a lot. This is extremely important to create the unique and most loved content for your blog and readers. The unique content is always loved the Google and it's algorithms that can help in getting high SERPs. If you write the lengthy content for your blog then surely it will be ranked higher in search results because Google ranks the quality content first. Don't care for Google ranking only, you should take care that what your readers like. Ask them and give them what they want from you. This will help in increasing the relationship between your blog and readers.

2. Completely SEO Optimize Your Post

You have to do the on-page SEO for your blog post. There are many things in optimizing a post but I'll explain these all in a short. First, You've to choose the most searched keyword for your post title. I mean do the keyword research for post title. Optimize images in your post by the use of ALT and Title Attributes. Create short Permalink of your post which may have the main keywords only. Insert the good meta description for your post. Improve the internal linking in your article. Avoid keyword density and keyword stuffing. In the last, insert the multiple keywords in your post. You can insert multiple keywords in your post like first in the post title, second in permalink, third in meta description, in the content and also in the comment area.

3. Create Backlinks For Your Post

So this is the off-page SEO and here you've to build some backlinks for the post which you want to bring on the top. I strongly recommend to do the commenting on CommentLuv enabled blogs. But before commenting, make sure that the blog on which you're commenting is having the good rank and domain authority. Also make sure that the post on which you're commenting is relevant with you post. For the quick result, I'll recommend to do the guest posting in which you'll get the dofollow backlink to your post and that will really helps a lot. 

4. Do The Social Promotion

Social Promotion also helps in bringing a post in the first position on Google search results. You can easily share post in some groups on Facebook and believe me it works like a charm. This will not only help in getting higher SERP but also in increasing the visitors of your blog. Don't always use Facebook to do social promotion, there are also other social sites like Twitter, Google+, Pinterest and StumbleUpon. After publishing post I usually share my post on all the above mentioned social sites. 

5. Avoid Copying Content

This is the worst habit of many bloggers that they copy the others work. Even in the beginning of blogging, I also did this mistake and really my all the efforts wasted. You should know that Google has an algorithm named Google Panda. It detects those blogs/sites which are stealing content from other sites and deindex that page from Google. If you're using Blogger then automatically that post will be deleted. It is highly recommended to build the own content instead of copying others work.

If you see more than 50% increase in referral traffic then any good or bad site is sending traffic to you and if the direct traffic is increased more than 50% than you might be receiving traffic from bots. Well, let's come to our point. Our point is all about referral traffic here so if that referral percentage is increased then you should check from which sites the traffic is coming. To check which site is sending referral traffic then Go to Google Analytics >> Traffic Sources >> Referrals.
There you will see those all sites from where you're getting referral traffic. So, check which site is sending the most high traffic to you. You've to check only those sites which are sending high traffic to you as you can see in the main image that sites are sending more than 40k visits. After getting the domain of those sites, visit each site and check them manually. Below, I've listed some points which you've to check in those sites. If they are having these sites then make sure they are bad sites.

The first one is the domain name of any bad site from where the traffic will be blocked and second one is the URL of any testing webpage where all the traffic will be redirected. Now, when you will receive the traffic that script will detect that domain and send or redirect that traffic to the testing webpage or any other URL which you give.

  1. Copy The JavaScript or PHP Script Which is Being Supported By Your Platform
  2. Paste It Below <head> [ So that browser read this first and script do the quick action ]
  3. Fill URLs From Where To Traffic Should Be Blocked or Bad Site's URL.
  4. Fill URL Where All The Traffic Should Be Redirected!
  5. Save It!
